HYDROGEN PEROXIDE

2. Less stable.
3. 6% strength is the upper limit in accordance with FDA.
4. It is the pure form and not combined with any chemicals
5. Suitable for short term day use

CARBAMIDE PEROXIDE

1. Less stronger and slow compared to hydrogen peroxide
2. More stable and can be stored for longer period.
3. 15% strength needed for the same effect
4. Combined with urea.
5. Suitable for overnight procedure.

Apart from this particular comparison, it is important to compare few of the available forms of teeth whitening products and agents. In this regard, you will find few of the following types.

1. Gels: They are available over the counter as kits which contain trays and peroxide based gels. The tray is to be loaded with the gel and is to be placed over the teeth tightly. Some kits can be used for overnight treatment. Usually for better result, this procedure should be repeated for 2 weeks twice daily.

2. Strips: These are translucent polyethylene thin strips coated with peroxide on one side. The application is for half an hour twice a day for two weeks. There is a controversy that strips are effective only for the anterior teeth but if properly sticked, it is equally effective for posterior teeth.

3. White light system is another option which incorporates white light technology. The effect is same as that of laser teeth whitening.

3. Tooth paste: whitening tooth pastes that are available in the pharmacy shops contain abrasives. This is effective against removing the surface stains. Some pastes contain polishing agents that whitens teeth by one or two shades. Tooth pastes do not contain bleach.

Even though many attractive products are available in the market for teeth whitening always choose a branded, cheap and suitable product for teeth whitening. But, do keep in mind that no whitening agent should be used for more than two weeks continuously as it causes irritation to the gums.
